Kuta happens to be located in the southern side of Lombok in Indonesia. It is most commonly known as Kuta Lombok to differentiate it from the more famous Kuta in Bali.
South Lombok happens to be a lovely area with some of the most beautiful beaches you will ever see and tourism happens to be very low so the village life of the locals is pretty much the same it has been for over one hundred years and is not crowded like many more typical popular diving locations.
You will find many surfers as it has great surfing conditions so you can count on coming across people from all over the world and interacting with the locals is rather easy as many are very welcoming and happy to accommodate you.
The most important thing of course is its diving conditions and Kuta happens to be perfect for scuba divers. There are a number of different diving sites all which offer you a unique experience and a chance to see a diverse range of marine life.
It does not matter how skilled you are, beginner or expert you will be able to find a dive site that you can experience and enjoy.
During your visit to Kuta you will experience dive sites such as The Zone. The Zone happens to be an underwater seamount and though it can be rather tricky to locate and moor to it does happen to have a fair amount of pelagics and also a number of gray reef sharks.
There is also The Highway which happens to be popular with you divers who enjoy the mornings.
The reef runs for about 3km and has sidetracks that veer off to the left and to the right. You will find a number of different species here such as Reef Sharks, Rays, Whitetip Reef Sharks, Jacks, Trevallies and another of other Pellagics.
For those more experienced with scuba diving there is The Cathedral. It is a large underwater pinnacle with only a small amount of the rock being visible from the surface. It gets its name due to its cathedral shaped swim through in the middle of it. Its maximum diving depth is 23m and you will find a rich sea life, with it being home to things such as sponges, corals, groupers, tuna fish and much more.
There are a number of other dive sites for you to visit such as The Magnet, a large rocky pinnacle that lies in the open sea and Coral Garden which is an easy dive with a maximum depth of 25m and home to many soft corals of numerous colours and also a place where you will spot some shrimps and nice nudibranchs.
Overall Kuta Lombok is a great place for scuba diving. The area itself is beautiful and home to a wide range of marine life, the locals are rather friendly and the area has not been ruined by tourism. There is also plenty of places to stay and many things to do.
